Homeschool Programs

Using the five E’s of inquiry — engage, explore, elaborate, explain, and evaluate - we'll investigate a variety of scientific concepts throughout our Homeschool Series Program. Homeschool Series programs are recommended for children ages 5-10 (K-4). We ask that parents of younger children accompany and participate with their child(ren) so that it is a family learning experience; older children may participate on their own if a parent needs to attend to a younger sibling.

Fees include all materials, supplies and hand-outs for each session. There is no charge for one adult accompanying a child participating in the programs.

Due to the limited space, pre-registration and payment is required.

Register for three or more two-week sessions and receive a 20% discount on each session (members and non-members).

Rocks, Minerals & Crystals

What IS the difference between a mineral and a rock? What makes a crystal? How can you tell? In this two week program, children will learn the fundamentals of rock and mineral identification, as well as crystal formation. Using a key, students will learn how to identify rocks and minerals, how to use the mineral hardness scale, and crack open some geodes to check out the crystals inside. Overall we'll... engage in a hands-on examination of a wide variety of rocks, minerals and crystals in this two week session! Please dress for possibly getting dirty!

Gravity

When we drop something, we learn gravity works - but what is gravity? Let's investigate what gravity is through a variety of hands-on experiments - we'll try to save Humpty Dumpty, build a pendulum and find out why planes don't fall from the sky.

Non-Members: $20 (siblings $16)

States of Matter

Solid? Liquid? Gas? Polymer? We'll explore the three states of matter in this hands-on program - investigating solids, liquids, and gases, the way matter changes from one state to another, and observable properties of matter in each state. In addition, we'll see what's up with strange chains called polymers to try to determine if they're solids or liquids! Please dress for potentially messy experiments!
